Statement from Oregon Business & Industry Regarding the Governor’s 2019-2021 Budget

The governor’s budget sets the framework for the discussions that will commence when the Oregon Legislature convenes in January. The focus on improving education outcomes through targeted investments is consistent with long-held positions of the Oregon business community, and we are pleased that the budget recognizes the entire education spectrum, from pre-school to post-secondary. In our view, prudent cost controls, including reasonable adjustments to retirement and employee health care programs, must be part of the financial plan to ensure that new investments actually lead to improved outcomes for Oregon’s youth rather than being absorbed entirely by the increasing costs of legacy programs. We look forward to working with the governor and legislative leadership on this effort,” said Sandra McDonough, president & CEO of Oregon Business & Industry.
