Recommendations for Employers
With concern for working parents, possibly ill employees or quarantined employees, businesses must be flexible as we address the COVID-19 situation.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends employers maintain flexible policies to allow employees to stay home to care for sick family members. Working from home, when it is an option, may also help employees weather this outbreak.
Our partners at PeaceHealth also want to remind employers should not require a doctor’s note for employees who are sick with acute respiratory illness to allow them to stay home. Healthcare providers and medical facilities are extremely busy addressing the most urgent needs in this outbreak and need to prioritize serving patients who need medical care.
On Thursday, March 12 Gov. Brown announced orders for the state, including cancelling all gatherings with 250 people or more through April 8. The orders also included these distancing measures for workplaces:
- Increased physical space between employees in offices and worksites
- Limited in-person meetings
- Limited travel
- Staggered work schedules where possible
